Foodtrip: Army Navy

I maybe fat but I am never a burger kind of person. So what am I doing on a burger joint specifically, Army Navy. It is all my lil bro's fault, no it's my mistake actually I shouldn't have asked him where he wanted to eat knowing that he loves burger that much and I am the sister who will obliged no matter what. To cut the long story short we end up having our dinner at Army Navy near UST.

The place has a very modern-ish feel. Its actually very cool and comfy. There are a few diners since it's a Sunday evening. But on weekdays, whenever I pass the area on my way to work, the place is pack with students nonetheless.

Looking at their menu, I was flummoxed. I cannot do this. I felt temptation and guilt rolling at the same time. But what am I supposed to do, well I opted for the lesser evil (or so I thought). I ordered Vegetable Burrito. Haha! Well at least I still had my greens. If it does count.

Here's the proper way to eat your burrito. See that? 

Vegetable Burrito comes with a slice of lime, salsa and sour cream. The combination of this all was very pleasant to my palate. I had 2-3 bites then I'm done. I had mine for take home. Not because it's not good enough. It's pretty flavorful but knock knock I'm trying to lose weight here and I can't just lose myself now. The order is too heavy for me and I just cant eat it on one sitting I'll have the rest of it tomorrow.

But what I cannot resist ( and I need to do my evening run for this ) is the Freedom fries. Which is actually a very limited freedom. This is where I am wishing that I have more of this seasoned, thinly cut, crispy fries. Pair it with their freshly brewed iced tea. So good and refreshing.

Why can't I have more of my freedom?

My lil bro's order was based on where his eyes landed first and that's the huge poster near the order taker, the Starving Sailor Sandwich. In which you can choose whether you like steak or chicken, my brother chose the latter.

I didn't get to taste this one, but according to lil bro at first bite, he noticed the bread. Its not like the others he had tried. Though the onions overpower everything and he just noticed the cheese spread like a minute before he finished eveything for him it was still really good and filling. And I am a living witness to that I saw it on his face and he ate everything in what, like, five minutes?? ;)

I am very much curious about the bread though, which my brother is raving on our way home. So maybe, there's a reason to be back at Army Navy's after all. ;)

A Trip to the Big City Grilled Hotdogs and Sausages

What's with the burgers and sausages that we cant get enough of. Is it the smokiness, the juiciness, the overall package or it's just the way things are because it definitely taste good and filling in every bite. Plus the fats that goes with it? Yep! It adds all to that awesomeness! Why is it that everything bad have to taste so great. And everything that taste so great adds up to your weight. Why? Why? Why? Life can be so unfair. 

It has been days now since I tasted one of the best sausage and burger in town. From the Big City Grilled Hotdogs and Sausages, Bratwurst of Johsonville is in the house. But wait, before I move on with that and make your mouth waters, I would like to tell you on how we end up in the Big City. It was right after we went to 34th Manila International Book Fair. I'm a book freak you know and this is what live for aside from food. Heehee. 

You see, weekends on a mall was quite a stress especially during lunch time every resto and fast food, big or small was packed at that time of day. We have no choice but to dine on the first stall that offered a space for us. After roaming around we finally end up on a small hotdog joint, Big City Grilled Hotdogs and Sausages. Not a good pick for me, I may say because at 2pm we were all starving and sandwiches and buns were a no no for me. The good thing though was they also serve rice meals that comes with sausages or burger patties or both. Well, what do you know I have both. Told you I'm starving.

The bad thing is If you are really starving and you want it fast then this place should not be on your list. The service is bad and too slow and the waiter is kinda on a panic mode. They serve our food an hour after. But our anger subsided when we had our first bite of both the sausage and their burger patty. It was grilled to perfection, the smokiness and juiciness and flavors rolled onto your palate like a rollercoaster wow! It was the best day of my life. Lolz. 

French Fries

What is a burger without fries of-course we wouldn't miss a chance. The fries is not the usual dehydrated potatoes that we had on other food joint. This one tasted like a real potato and was seasoned well. A good serving for 50 pesos.

The Bratwurst is a must try! It is definitely worth the wait. I might drop by at the grocery for Johnsonvilles Bratwurst. ONLY! Lol.

I will see more of the Big City sometime soon. ;)

Falling in Love with Holdak Chicken

When and where and how did it happen that I only got to learn this lately?! Tell me! Tell me!! Okayy, Enough! :)

This is an innovation of the double deep fried /Korean-style chicken that its other competitors are offering. True to its name Holdak Chicken can make you totally, deeply and madly fall in love with the chicken. I got Holdak myself! Holdak Chicken opened early this year located at the ground floor of Mezza Residence right beside Starbucks. They offer "the real" Korean chicken which we Filipinos got to try since the rave of Bonchon and others. BUT! this is entirely different and way better than its competitors mostly because they offer different blend of flavors that the others lack. They have four variants of chicken in which you can choose from, yang-nyam, spicy yang-nyam, padak and jack daniel's. On top of that the chicken are boneless! Like the sound of it? oh yeah! Eating chicken can be that awesome. Aside from that the chicken is crispy even when its coated with the sauce, it is tender and juicy just the way I like it. Every bite can definitely bring you to heaven. Just by writing this makes me crave for more. HeeHee.

Spicy Yang-Nyam

This is not for the faint of heart. This is really spicy but I love it because I am fan of spicy food. It is never an issue. I could have more of this.

Jack Daniels

Their version of the famous jack daniel sauce (what is jack daniel sauce anyway? heehee) topped with caramelized onions. It is their bestseller and now I know why. This is highly recommended! The sweetness and smokiness is something that I can only describe by saying "Mmmmm...this is it! This is really is it!" matching with an eager look on my face.  ( 'kay that one is corny)

Curry Fries

If there is Mcdonald's Shake Shake Fries this is Holdak Chicken's version, Curry Fries though you nevee have to shake it. The smoky and spicy flavor is just right. Perfect for my palate and it complements with the other dishes as well.

Cheese Ramen served on a very cute casserole

If you wanted something to warm your stomach you ought to try their Cheese Ramen. At first glance it looks like my favorite lucky me noodles, but the broth beats it all. The cheesiness of this soup should never be underestimated it overwhelms me in a very good way. And did I tell you that it is served in a very cute container? Wheredya get those?! 

My overall experience at Holdak is something that I want to experience over and over again. I may not have gone yet to Korea but I felt that I had been magically transported from here to there. From their simple interiors to their awesome food I am a step closer to Korea.
