Mr. Kimbob: Korean Health Food

A lot of people are becoming responsible on what food to eat. Many are looking for a much healthier option that will satisfy both their tastebuds and their tummies and I am included on that "many" people.

Looking for healthier alternative is a problem no more. Mr. Kimbob is on! Mr. Kimbob is a Korean health restaurant found mostly on SM Foodcourts. I am an avid fan of Mr. Kimbob ever since I tried it and Bibimbob/Bibimbap is what I usually order. Bibimbap or mix rice includes a variety of side dishes which I am not familiar with, with the exception of kimchi. You can also choose between pork, beef or chicken. In which I would always go for the later.

I had Chicken Bibimbob (ofcourse!) I asked the waiter if I could changed the bean sprouts to another order of kimchi (bean sprouts is no-no for me) in which they gladly obliged.

I love everything on my plate! Not all love kimchi but I do, it's an acquired taste perhaps. Now, how do you eat this? First, add gochujang, it is a special Korean sauce that will add a little kick to your meal. Second, Mix everything! As in everything! After mixing, help yourself! Dig in!

At Php 99 its quite affordable considering the serving, it was really huge. The myriad of flavors from the saltiness and sweetness of the chicken to the heat emanating from the sauce and the subtle tangy flavor from the side dishes plays well in your palate. It was so good!

You've got to try it!

Chicken Charlie

We where in the mall when my younger bro's craving for burgers cave in. Chicken Charlie came in mind because I know they offer burger that will not go bitin of my brothers huge appetite.I know, because I had it before. ^^

He had Chicken Charlie's Signature Burger. The burger was really huge. The chicken patty was crispy, flavorful and juicy and it was actually bigger than the bun. It was so filling.

I, on the other hand, ordered Fish and chips. I love the fish it was crunchy and seasoned well.

We also ordered Soy Garlic Chicken. This was a let down. Although the chicken was juicy and crispy it lacks flavor at some point. I really hope that they could do something about this

Also on our table is an order of Cheese Dynamite. The cheese counteracts the heat from the jalapeno. A really good appetizer. Just be wary because its too oily.

Try it! Ciao!

Isla Cafe: Home of the Manila's best Puto, Pancit and Palamig

I'm frustrated and disappointed. I had wrong decisions. I made mistakes (a lot). I'm down to the very bottom. Felt like I just want to submerge into non-existence. Depression is taking its toll. And I just handle it the way I handle everything else through EATING. Heehee.

I thank my brother for this because he came to my rescue all the way from the south. Thanks bro! He meet me at Robinson's Manila. We strolled and looked for something new. I'm going to say it again (and again) noodles is my comfort food so that was what we looked for.

We then eventually spotted, Isla Cafe a cool looking modern Filipino style restaurant. The waiters and waitresses wore Filipinianas and Barong Tagalog which then greeted their customers in Filipino as "Binibini", "Ginoo".

Their menu is a variety of Filipino dishes. They have meryenda, panghimagas and palamig. Isla cafe is known to be the home of the best pancit, puto and palamig

We got to try one of our servers recommended dish the, Binawang na Sotanghon.

It was really good. The garlic flavor does not overpower the dish it has balance. But it was too oily and sadly I find the sotanghon a bit hard. The puto that came with it was so-so.

Since I wanted a cup of noodles, I ordered La Paz Batchoy.

The noodles were perfectly cooked. The soup was flavorful and not salty. The serving was huge. There is value for money. The overall dish was not the best that I had, I like it but not memorable.

The Lemon Lime Mint Shake, which I did not get to try, according to my brother was so refreshing. The combination of the lemon and mint was really enjoyable. He drunk it with so much gusto. He really loved it.

Isla Cafe has very cool interiors that is so relaxing. If you want to stay for a coffee and dessert you can do so, the feeling is very homey.

Till next time! Ciao!

Foodtrip: Open Kitchen Bistro

I've been meaning to try Open Kitchen Bistro near our place in Sta. Rosa. It was a small-in-a-hole diner that can sit around 10-15 people. The place was always crowded whenever I pass the area and most often people are standing waiting for their turn to be seated. Curiosity got me on why a newly opened place gather the people while Atoy's Porkchop a few blocks away and has already established its name always has none.

It was one Sunday evening that I get to try Open Kitchen along with my brother. The place was fully packed when we arrived. Luckily we don't have to wait that long. Their menu is limited to Chicken Kebab, Grilled Liempo, Sizzling Sisig and Beef Pares priced at only Php 58. Very affordable!

Open Kitchen's kitchen is literally open. You can watch them cook and the smell of the food is WOW! It really makes me hungry.

Condiments
I had Chicken Kebab with Yogurt. You have to add Php 10 for the yogurt.

Chicken Kebab
The presentation was perfectly executed! The smell alone tells you that you're in for something good. The taste was over the top. Smoky, savory and juicy kebab dipped in yogurt was simply amazing. I really love it! What's more to love is that it is very cheap at Php 68. Oh yeah!

While my brother ordered the sizzling sisig.

The sisig was also delicious the amount of heat was just right. I only try a little because I stay away from this (bad for me). Some food blogger I am.. Heehee

Two thumbs up for our Open Kitchen Bistro experience.

Bun with a twist: Wendy's Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger

Wendy's new offering, Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger, which tops the burgers in the US has finally made its way in the Philippines for us Filipino foodies to enjoy.

And of-course yours truly will not be left behind. After the extensive medical exam I had at St. Lukes (extension) which also involves a long queue line and waiting time it is no wonder that my tummy is crying of hunger.

I headed to the nearest Wendy's at cor. Kalaw St. and ordered Pretzel Bacon Cheeseburger. I first saw their ad along SLEX and I got curious. Pretzel? Burger? Really? So eventually I gave in.

What's a burger without fries? This completes the meal. :)

Look at that awesome-ness!!!
It is made with 100% US Beef Patty, juicy strips of bacon, melted cheddar cheese, smokey honey mustard and other premium ingredients.

It was love at first bite. The mustard was really good it really stands out along with the cheese. It just get messy when you eat it. The pretzel bun was soft and chewy. The serving was really huge. I had a hard time finishing it the bun itself is really filling. I The only downside is I find the patty a little dry and bland. Thanks to the bacon the mustard and the cheese. This was a really nice reward to self after a tiring medical check-up. Who knows, my cholesterol level might be shooting up again. HeeHee.

Get it now! Ciao!
